Position Description:

The Senior Health Editor plays a key role within the Healthgrades editorial team, leading and managing long and short-term editorial initiatives that support the Healthgrades editorial mission of “How America finds a doctor”. A Senior Health Editor will define and execute the content needs for a variety of consumer health experiences that consumers access on desktop and mobile platforms.

The ideal Senior Health Editor candidate is a self-motivated individual that is passionate about online programming experiences and providing consumers with health information in creative, relevant, action-oriented ways; thrives in fast-paced, dynamic interactive environments; and has seasoned editorial programming and production sensibilities.

Responsibilities include:

Identifying content needs and outlining/scoping new content types and assets with a unique value proposition
Managing the development of health content from inception to completion, ensuring established deadlines are met
Planning and implementing editorial project timelines in collaboration with a cross-functional team
Creating original health content that is engaging to consumers and appeals to a targeted audience
Working with product teams to editorially vet product concepts and identify and define content needs to support new product efforts
Programming content in creative, contextually relevant ways to grow site engagement
Serving as liaison with writers, medical reviewers and other editorial staff regarding program and editorial materials
Ensuring all content being published is edited, copyedited, proofread, fact-checked, permissions sought
Editing and fact-checking materials as necessary, developing and maintaining a consistent editorial voice and tone within products and across experiences
Communicating effectively across cross-functional project teams about all milestones and changes to those milestones

Desired Skills and Experience:

Minimum 7 years' experience in producing online consumer-focused content assets, with several years’ experience in health content
Thorough knowledge of AMA style and ability to follow other style guides
Familiarity with medical terminology, pharmaceutical products, and disease states
Ability to interpret medical literature
Skills in writing for a digital audience across social, mobile, desktop platforms
Ability to proofread and copyedit documents that have professional-level medical content
Proven proactive problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with the ability to participate constructively and effectively in meetings
Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail, with proficient writing, editing, storytelling and packaging skills
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Experience in successfully managing projects across a matrixed organization with multiple locations
Experience working with freelance writers and healthcare professionals who blog and produce expert content
Strong planning and project management competencies
Self-starter approach to work, with an eagerness to consistently meet and exceed objectives
Seasoned communicator that is comfortable on email, phone and IM, and has ability to effectively manage communication style up, across and down a management structure, within a diversely skilled organization
Comfort working in entrepreneurial environments and a strong team player
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and deal with change
A general understanding of user-centered interactive design, navigational usability, and design terminology
Familiarity with content management systems, video formats and HTML formatting
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet applications
B.A. or B.S. from an accredited university
