The chosen candidate will join NYIT’s Office of Communications and Marketing at an invigorating time as it works to expand its digital and online presence, integrated marketing efforts, and project-based strategies to leverage, build, and expand the NYIT brand regionally, nationally, and internationally. Joining colleagues in C&M responsible for communicating to and about specific areas within the institution, the publicist will be responsible for all global communications but should be able to handle any PR/media/publicity and writing task within a variety of areas, from student affairs to academics. Being a team player on group projects will be a critical part of this position as will the development of strategies to elevate the NYIT name in the global marketplace and the coordination brand integration while respecting cultural differences. This position is based at NYIT’s Manhattan campus, near Columbus Circle, but travel to Old Westbury will be required.

•Write compelling globally-themed news and profiles of students, faculty, and staff achievements at NYIT campuses in New York, China, the Middle East, and Canada for external and internal communications.
•Develop marketing//PR messages for global campuses and exchange programs.
•Write content and news for each campus’ web presence.
•Monitor and participate in culturally appropriate global and regional media (traditional and social).
•Maintain media lists.
•Maintain a fact sheet and photography for each global campus and its surrounding area.
•Available to accompany NYIT administration to campuses outside the United States as needed or to support administration with preparation for foreign travel, including remarks, PPT presentations, collateral, media outreach.
•Develop materials for regional accreditation visits and institutional events such as graduation and conferences.
•Develop strategic media/PR plans for each campus as part of an overarching strategic PR plan.
•Participate in the institutional incident management committee on behalf of global campuses.
•Arrange for translation (or if qualified, translate) communications.
•Other duties as assigned.

A bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of higher education communications experience, preferably at a global institution or in a marketing capacity. Demonstrated superior writing ability, with experience developing media releases and pitches, web content, social media content, and feature-type articles. Willingness to travel to all NYIT campuses, domestic and globally, on short notice. This includes traveling to the Old Westbury campus three or four times per month. Experience with MS Office Suite (inc. PowerPoint), Photoshop, videoconferencing programs (Skype, Zoom); HTML or web content management system experience helpful. Demonstrated fluency in a second language, preferably Mandarin/Simplified Chinese. Understanding of global cultures, customs, and higher education practices in the Middle East and Asia is preferred.
