Autism Speaks is the largest autism science and advocacy organization in the country, dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure for autism.

A rewarding career opportunity awaits an experienced candidate to join our media team in New York City as Director of Science Media Strategy. The Director will be responsible for pitching and publicizing all science and awareness initiatives (nationally and internationally) for Autism Speaks and for raising the profile of the organization through traditional, digital (social media) platforms, and new media.

Responsibilities of the Director include serving as science and awareness press liaison on a national and international level; publicizing new research and translating science from technical to lay language; creating press releases/materials/talking points for science initiatives, campaigns, programs and media outlets. The Director will partner with the Science team and staff on conference appearances and presentations, liaise with other departments in order to provide direction and ‘prep' for staffing media campaigns, and will drive overall brand awareness through print, internet and broadcast medium.






Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or Media; 8-10+ years' experience in science and medical media PR (background in hard news preferred); and recent/relevant copywriting/editing experience. Must possess superior writing and editing skills, have a solid knowledge of science (translational research preferred), and have national/NYC science media contacts (international contacts a plus). Flexibility to travel, with occasional work evenings and weekends, is required.
