Graphic Design/Communications Specialist

Working as a key member of the communications team under the direction of the Assistant Director of Online Communications within the Dyson Dean’s Office of Communications, the communications and marketing specialist will design and produce graphic elements and marketing collateral, including top banners, event fliers, brochures, invitations, fact sheets, advertisements, PowerPoint presentations, and other graphic communication efforts. The successful candidate will bring passion for design, social media, and a consistent desire to innovate. She/he will have impressive graphic design, writing and project management skills while being able to maintain grace under the pressure of working on concurrent assignments.

This successful candidate will be an active participant in social media activities, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, etc. She/he will moderate fan conversations on official social media pages and grow a community of fans across social networks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design marketing pieces for departmental events promotion and program recruitment.
  • Work with academic departments and University-level departments to promote Dyson events and achievements.
  • Post events/news through various online media channels.
  • Maintain the Dyson College communications production calendar.
  • Create and distribute the weekly faculty newsletter to Dyson faculty.
  • Assist the assistant director of online communications in planning and developing for specific marketing campaigns.
  • Assist in direct outreach to students/faculty for Dyson news briefs on faculty/staff/student achievements.
  • Assist as needed with internal communications using Constant Contact.
  • Coordinate internal print and distribution of promotional materials.
  • Maintain a repository of Dyson photographs.
  • Digitally photograph events, faculty, art work, etc.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of social media initiatives.
  • Assist in compiling social network metrics reports.
  • Assist in coordinating updates to the Dyson recruitment binder for undergraduate admissions.
  • Assist with website updates using Drupal Content Management System.
  • Provide communications support for special events.
  • Support the Dyson College Dean’s Office of Communications across a variety of special communications projects as needed.
  • Qualifications:

  • Graphic Arts/related design or communications degree and two-three years of experience.
  • Experience and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software: Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Excellent layout skills with a creative flair.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel is required. Knowledge in digital photography is required.
  • Immersion in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs, etc.) and trends with an understanding of their design, functionality and uses.
  • Expertise in writing and editing for digital and print publications,
  • Be articulate and be able to write comfortably.
  • Ability to master new modes of social media relevant to target populations.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and content management systems is preferable.
