The Chronicle of Higher Education seeks a Director of Marketing Strategy, Corporate and Institutional to create best-of-breed marketing strategies that will drive corporate and institutional engagement and solution sales. The Director will arm the sales organization with compelling solutions (advertising and non-advertising) as well as data-driven sales tools that differentiate Chronicle’s offers in a competitive space. Main responsibilities include developing and over-seeing the execution of strategy for growing revenue and market-share in corporate and institutional markets; leading all segment activities such as assessing market requirements and developing new products and services; evaluating current offerings for market and company fit; and developing a deep understanding of market personas. The Director will need to exhibit a deep understanding of how our higher education and non-profit corporate partners wish to engage with the market, how to build and package attractive offerings, and how to communicate those offerings most effectively.

The successful candidate will be a strategist with keen critical thinking skills, a mastery of marketing, strategic acumen, and a commitment to creating new possibilities. They should be naturally adaptive with the ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry and lead a team through change.

Other Key Responsibilities:

•Develop and maintain compelling and actionable market segmentation of current and prospective corporate clients.
•Oversee the development of corporate and institutional market personas to better understand the met and unmet needs and concerns of our target buyers; adapt and revise personas as needs evolve.
•Acquire and transfer knowledge and insights regarding emerging media trends and innovations related to the corporate market to the rest of the Marketing team, sales and other company stakeholders.
•Work in conjunction with Product Innovation and technology teams to develop strategy for analyzing market demand, identifying and sizing new corporate market opportunities.
•Own the product roadmap for existing products, including development and implementation strategy, creating deliverables and evaluating product success.
•Work with Product Innovation team and other members of the Technology department to develop product roadmap for new products and participate in SCRUM process as appropriate.
•Integrate competitive analysis into the development and on-going management of products and services to maintain the Chronicle’s leadership position in the corporate market.
•Own and manage strategic interactions with the corporate and institutional sales team and develop a collaborative approach to problem-solving and communication.
•Oversee strategy for gathering, analyzing and delivering business intelligence and user experience data to serve corporate and institutional marketing
•Develop processes and tools to seamlessly manage project hand-offs across marketing functions and marketing team members.
•Initiate ongoing, consistent and direct communication with Chronicle colleagues and external partners.


•Strong creative problem-solving, strategic, and critical thinking skills.
•Proven track record in product marketing and ownership, including developing new solutions and evaluating and enhancing existing solutions.
•Experience building creative and effective sales enablement programs in collaboration with key stakeholders.
•Leadership experience in setting, managing and achieving priorities to reinforce a high-performing culture.
•Natural ability to recognize, motivate, and reward direct reports and peers.
•Experience working in a collaborative and deadline driven environment.
•Experience managing simultaneous projects with optimal results.
•Ability to apply sound judgment to leadership and act with incomplete information or ambiguous conditions.

•Knowledge of higher education/nonprofit and media sectors is a plus.

Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.
•Significant on the job training in strategic product oversight, managing multiple priorities, developing processes and systems for operational excellence, and instilling a data-driven approach to product marketing.
