ClickZ, a long established online publication that covers interactive marketing and advertising, seeks a digital-savvy copy editor. You'll need to understand the often technical jargon of digital marketing including cross channel, search and social, display and RTB as well as marketing analytics. Our journalists and contributors write authoritatively informing ClickZ readers how ad agencies and brand marketers are using Google, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest as well as mobile, video, and emerging formats and technologies to deliver effective marketing communications and advertising campaigns.

The role of the copy editor has many demands. Ultimately, the copy editor is the reader's advocate, ensuring that columns and other editorial content is written clearly, concisely, and accurately. The copy editor is expected to stay in touch with journalists and contributors via email, phone and instant message as well as with the editor and other members of the editorial team.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, energetic, efficient, a communicator and team player, strong writer/copyeditor, and have an avid interest in the digital marketing space.

The position is office based in lower Manhattan. Ideally the candidate will reside in New York City.


Copy editing, fact checking, and coding Experts columns (4 to 7 each day)
Proof reading daily newsletters, which are typically scheduled to be delivered 9 to 10 AM ET each day (4 to 7 a day)
Alerting ClickZ Experts contributors about upcoming deadlines; contacting them by email if they miss deadlines. For contributors of sponsored columns, this follow up may require phone calls to the authors or their assistants.
Posting ClickZ Asia articles and images (5 to 10 articles a week)
Alerting the editor about any problems with columns and contributors
Copy editing Stats stories (2 to 3 per week)
Copy editing news stories as time permits
Maintaining best practices in copy editing and style guidelines (changing e-mail to email, etc.)
Identifying potential instances of libel or defamatory remarks in editorial copy and bringing them to the attention of the editor.
Monitoring comments on articles, deleting spam and flagging defamatory remarks
Proofreading SES magazine articles
Uploading video from contributors and SES conferences into CMS; writing headlines and subheads/teasers when necessary
The job also involves administrative duties such as forwarding email messages to contributors and coordinating annual ClickZ awards program.

BA in English, journalism, communications or a related field
A minimum of 1 years' copyediting experience in a fast-paced environment
Experience at a newspaper or online magazine
Ability to meet deadlines
Exceptional skills in grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax and vocabulary
Knowledge of Chicago, AP style
