Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with and report to the Director of Communications & Marketing to plan and execute communications initiatives.
• Provide communications and marketing support to National Disability Institute and across various grant-funded projects.
• Execute national and local communications and marketing campaigns and programs with Director of Communications & Marketing and Technology & Media Manager across various grant-funded projects. Serve as a core team member with the Director of Communications & Marketing on the national communications team of the MyFreeTaxes initiative, a collaboration with two other national nonprofits funded by the Walmart Foundation designed to provide free online and on-the-ground tax preparation and filing for low- to moderate-income individuals, including people with disabilities.
• Oversee organizational Social Media properties (Facebook,Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, LinkedIn and Tumblr) ensuring content is up-to-date and reflects current activities and interests of NDI.
• Create content for social media properties as well as assist other NDI staff members in creating social media content.
• Write and edit communications copy, including but not limited to press releases, website copy, social media content, presentations, correspondence, as well as marketing, educational and training materials.
• Assist in the development of national and local media campaigns and public relations programs. Work with Director of Communications & Marketing to pitch national and local media on key initiatives.
• Use content management systems to assist Technology & Media Manager in website updating and maintenance.
• Advise staff on any issues concerning use of social media in upcoming projects and actively participate in development of project-specific social media strategy and content.
• Monitor and provide monthly media, website and social media metrics to the senior staff.
• Assist with design and dissemination of HTML emails (newsletters, invitations, etc.) via email marketing platforms.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Multimedia Communications, Public Relations or Marketing, or equivalent professional experience
• 3+ years work experience in non-profit or corporate communications, journalism, public relations with strong, professional writing skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interest in and understanding of various communications platforms (including social media, public relations, marketing, media, print, digital, and interactive communications and user experience) and how they can be combined and leveraged for marketing and communications strategies
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask
• HTML editing and writing skills
• Good eye for design
• Knowledge of disability-related issues, either through professional or personal experience desired
• Knowledge of and experience with online public relations dashboards for dissemination, monitoring and analysis desired
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop, with some knowledge of Illustrator a plus
