We are looking for a Communications Director to develop, implement and maintain a variety of communications strategies. This person will be responsible for media relations as well as for the union’s website, e-blasts and other communications; will maintain the email list, and will manage the Guild’s blog and social media presence. The Director will work with all departments of the Guild. The successful candidate will increase Writers Guild of America, East visibility and public profile, as well as help engage, energize, inform and motivate the Guild’s members and potential members.

Responsibilities
•Handle all aspects of media relations, including writing and disseminating press releases, pitching stories to targeted reporters, responding to press inquiries.
•Create and manage content of the Guild’s website – both creative and functional - keeping the site updated and current.
•Coordinate,edit and maintain the WriteOn blog.
•Work with staff and Guild member committees to integrate communications strategies into organizing efforts and member programs, so that each campaign and event achieves its objectives.
•Oversee and manage the Guild’s social media presence.
•Maintain WGAE brand adhering to the graphic standards guidelines.
•Create quarterly newsletter.

Qualifications
•Three to five years of relevant experience, with proven media relations skills and knowledge of the print, broadcast and online media landscape
•Skilled at using Content Management Systems and Constituent Relations Management Systems
•Excellent writing and editing skills
•Demonstrated web management experience
• Bachelor’s degree
•Proven ability to work on deadline
•Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to manage multiple projects at once
• Labor union experience highly desired
•Knowledge of the SALSA LABS online platform a plus
•Knowledge of the TYPO3 and WordPress content management systems a plus
•Entertainment industry experience a definite plus
