Editorial Assistant

Reports to: The Editor for Literary Studies and Philosophy and the Editor for Film and Media Studies

Primary Responsibilities:

•Support commissioning editors in all stages of the publication of books and supporting material, and the administration of title acquisition, planning and production
•Provide administrative assistance to editors, including systems title management and reporting, and ensuring that publishing programs run to schedule
•Correspond effectively and tactfully with authors
•Research academic contacts and marketplace for print and digital projects
•Send manuscripts for peer review and endorsement
•Prepare editorial and marketing materials
•Issue contracts and deal with royalties
•Keep schedules and general department organization
•Manage the copyright data process
•Liaise with production, sales, marketing, and operations departments
•Recruit, hire, and supervise interns

Selection Criteria:

•Bachelors degree in a related field and 1 to 3 years related experience
•Minimum 1 year publishing experience/internship preferred
•Demonstrate a passion for academic publishing
•Knowledge of the academic study of literature and/or film and media a plus
•Solid understanding of the US higher education market
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
•Professional manner in dealing with colleagues, authors, third-party partners
•Proven title database management skills
•Exceptional Microsoft Office skills a plus
