The Smithsonian Media Web Content Internship is designed to provide a meaningful, hands-on learning experience. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about aspects of Digital Data Management while providing data management support to various Smithsonian digital properties (Smithsonianmag.com, airspacemag.com, smithsonianjourneys.org).

Through weekly and ad hoc/informal meetings with the Digital Editor, Senior Producer, and other members of the Digital Team, the Intern will have the opportunity to:

•Collaborate with Digital Editor to enhance existing web site content online.
•Update legacy online content to fit within a new digital enterprises content management system.
•Locate, upload and replace current multimedia with higher-resolution replacements.
•Create a searchable photo database for SmithsonianJourneys.org with existing media.
•Work with the Digital Producer, Journeys, to migrate existing tours to new content management system.
•Provide quality assurance testing across Smithsonian Enterprises Digital Properties
•Geotag all legacy content.
•Update legacy data to ensure the consistency and accuracy of the magazine’s online presentation.

Through the experience, the intern will:

•Learn what it takes to produce a digital magazine online.
•Learn editorial and multimedia best practices for print and digital content.
•Learn today's web standards and usage of open source digital platforms.
•Gain Valuable real-world digital and web work experience.

6 month internship - Starting in early November 2013
Paid ($13 Hourly)

The ideal candidate will have experience with Photoshop, HTML, and a Web content management system, or the ability to learn. The successful candidate will be able to handle several projects at once under deadline pressure, and should be fluent in Microsoft Office applications.

Candidates should be a recent graduate or in the process of obtaining a Bachelors/Masters degree in new media, journalism, or related discipline.
