RIF has an exciting opportunity for a Public Relations / Communications Specialist to promote RIF’s mission through the development and execution of communications strategies that successfully engage target constituents and build a community of active RIF supporters. The PR/Communications Specialist works closely with internal stakeholders and external partners including consultants, members of the news media, and vendors.


Communications Strategy
•Design comprehensive communications plans and campaigns that advance RIF’s mission.
•Develop key messaging for target audiences in area of responsibility.
•Manage working relationships with communications consultants to ensure quality and timely service delivery.

Media Relations
•Actively monitor, track, and circulate media coverage of RIF and topics related to RIF's mission.
•Write and edit media communications including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, etc.
•Pitch national and local media on key initiatives.
•Assist in the development of national and local media campaigns and public relations programs.
•Capture and archive media clips, and generate media coverage reports.
•Serve as project lead on media initiatives for cause-marketing campaigns.

Web, Social, And Digital Media Communications
•Write and edit online communications including website updates, enewsletter, blog and social media posts.
•Research and develop content for RIF's social media presence on (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
•Establish and maintain a team of third-party resources to support online/social media content development ( e.g. mommy bloggers, kid-lit bloggers, children’s book publishers)
•Integrate content across online channels to maximize the impact of strategic communication goals.
•Establish and maintain an editorial calendar to support deep audience engagement and audience growth across all online communication channels.
•Track audience engagement and generate metrics report for all online channels.

•Develop and maintain an informed awareness of topics of interest to RIF’s mission and initiatives, to most effectively carry out all of the activities listed above and participate in special projects.
•Support the preparation of reports and presentations related to communications for the CEO, senior executive team, and board of directors.
•Contribute to and participate in department tasks as assigned, as well as broader RIF-wide projects and/or committees as needed.
•Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional development.

•Bachelor’s degree marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
•At least five (5) years of related work experience.
•Outstanding editorial and research skills including ability to interact with internal and external experts, and identify sources of information; highly resourceful
•Exceptional writer with superior grammar, spelling and proofreading skills
•Expertise in traditional marketing , social media, and online community-building
•Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities
•Excellent organizational skills
•High-performing self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
•Superior interpersonal skills including professionalism and responsiveness to feedback
•Great instincts to guide communications planning and strategy
•Creative and passionate about building engaged communities online
•Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign/Photoshop) web content management systems and web analytic tools
•Seriously passionate about reading and writing
