Job Description
Job Summary:

The Social Media Assistant will assist the Social Media and PR teams with online campaigns and initiatives across all of the ASPCA’s program areas. This position will be instrumental in building relationships with new online influencers, and will play a large role in tracking, monitoring, and analyzing the organization’s reputation online.



Job Responsibilities:

• Build relationships with different categories of influencers, including mom, food & lifestyle bloggers
• Maintain and update list of online influencers across various categories
• Monitor social media activity on daily basis regarding chatter (from both positive & negative perspective) and report trends related to the ASPCA brand
• Participate in social media conversations, when appropriate, that surround the ASPCA brand
• Identify relevant blogger and social media conference opportunities; strategize ways that the ASPCA can leverage them to promote program areas in a cost-efficient way
• Assist in creation of quarterly and yearly analysis report of the ASPCA brand online
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with various departments within the organization and with outside organizations
• Collaborate with Marketing and Licensing departments, to develop social media campaigns that will benefit the ASPCA and corporate partners
• Communicate issues to social media team that require immediate attention
• Work with Media &Communication and Development, as appropriate, to leverage PR campaigns through social media using different platforms (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, YouTube, etc.)
• Play an instrumental role in social media crisis communication and monitoring



Education:

• Bachelor’s degree



Experience:

• Strong internship experience in Social Media Communications and Public Relations / Corporate Communications, with a majority of experience in Social Media.
• Documented experience in Social Media including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, blogs, etc.



Knowledge Requirements:

The ideal candidate will posses strong writing skills and a very keen sense of news and consumer communications trends online. Must be computer and Internet/search engine savvy to perform online research. Must have knowledge of standard proofreaders’ marks and the Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style and ability to follow and keep abreast of animal welfare events and developments around the country. Knowledge and understanding of the ASPCA’s mission, programs, policies, philosophies.



Skills Requirements:

• Strong understanding of and passion for the social media space
• Ability to properly use social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, blogs, etc
• Excellent communication (verbal, interpersonal and writing) and organizational skills
• Must be able to conceive, draft, proofread and edit written materials
• Strong metrics and analytical skills
• Ability to develop website documents
• Ability to effectively manage time and schedules
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to manage PR campaigns and messaging via social media
• Solicit feedback from internal departments and understand mission of key departments
• Ability to craft presentations and present findings at meetings
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• Ability to work rapidly and meet deadlines under pressure
