The VP Communications and Content provides leadership and management in the development of internal and external communications strategies and plans involving branding, messaging, public and media relations, and marketing. He/she reports to the Senior Vice President, External Relations and works in collaboration with the broader External Relations team to strengthen the organization’s position as a leader in the humanitarian and post-conflict recovery sector.

Major Responsibilities:
•Develop and oversee implementation of IRC multichannel communications strategy and activities.
•Increase media coverage and drive stories of IRC programs and of the people the organization serves in publications, websites and through social media.
•Oversee the proactive development of relevant and targeted communication and branding materials to widely disseminate IRC news, event, announcements and key initiatives.
•Drive organization growth and reputation by maintaining strong working relationships with media network contacts and by effectively representing the IRC as a writer, thinker, and speaker under a variety of circumstances, including interactions with the media, at professional conferences, strategic events and in meetings with funders and colleagues.
•Identify media trends and competitive strengths and weaknesses and timely act on information gathered to guard and grow IRC’s reputation and visibility.
•Under the SVP’s leadership, manage brand messaging across all materials, services, website, and events production; oversee the creative services and messaging units and monitor the internal and external use of the visual brand components.
•Support marketing strategies and objectives by driving creative editorial and design services and providing recommendations to marketing objectives
•Provide high-level internal communications, ensuring transparent and consistent communication strategies around organization strategy, key events, management changes and employee programs and providing strategy and coaching to IRC Senior Team on impactful and/or crisis internal communications.
•Oversee dissemination of internal and external organizational communications by creating and upholding policies and programs that support communication strategies, sharing best practices, staying abreast of the organization objectives, activities and accomplishments
•Lead the Communications and Content team and manage the unit budget with commitment, integrity and accountability to the “IRC Way” – IRC Global Standards for Professional Conduct

Job Requirements:
•Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, or related field required
•15+ years professional experience in cross discipline marketing communications (PR, marketing, media relations, communications, web)
•Experience in executive communications, journalism and/or change management preferred
•Non-profit and/or international humanitarian aid experience a plus
•Proven ability to manage a complex team
•Proven ability to define and implement critical marketing and communication strategies
•Ability to translate broad vision and strategies into specific objectives
•Deep understanding and solid grasp of effective online and non-traditional media campaigns
•Working knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods of alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral and visual media
•Strong comprehension of humanitarian sector actors and trends
•Working knowledge of programs and best practices around delivery of organizational communication affecting internal and external participants
•Capacity to build and maintain professional networks and channels of communication inside and outside the organization
•Strong skills collaborating with multiple and diverse stakeholders across the organization
•Understanding of and experience with fundraising a plus
•French and/or Arabic preferred


Working Environment:
High pressure, conflicting priorities and multiple projects environment; remote evening and weekend work as required; some international and US travel.
