The Online Editor will oversee editorial and multimedia content and its presentation on all Northstar Meetings Group websites. He/she will develop strategies and ideas for new online features that will add value for readers, drive traffic, and create opportunities for new revenue. The Online Editor will help guide the ongoing digital transformation and social media execution that aligns content into a dynamic digital experience and increases the profile of Northstar’s websites within the meetings industry. The Online Editor should be a big-picture person with a detail-oriented personality, someone who is able to translate ideas and content from the editorial staff into engaging features on the web. The web editor will be asked to contribute editorially (reporting/writing/editing) to support various products as needed. This position requires editing with some original writing. Other job duties include cultivating industry expertise, client relationship management and social media strategy.

•Develop ideas for, and oversee execution of, interactive features on the websites, coordinating with production/web designers/editorial staff as needed.
•Oversee and coordinate the creation of a resource archive of educational materials and rich media content (podcasts, webinars, written resources, etc.)
•Maintain the breaking news section of the website with links to industry-related news from other media outlets as well as news items from other editorial staff.
•Ensure frequency of new digital content and use website/audience metrics to measure audience engagement.
•Act as an online brand advocate by developing relationships with industry bloggers and encouraging coverage of Northstar’s articles and events; joining online social networks and participating in conversations as a Northstar representative (including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and others) and working to increase the number of links pointing to our websites on industry resource lists.
•Monitor and respond to comments on websites.
•Create and maintain an RSS feed for editorial content.
•Proofread and make necessary changes to the website
•Monitor online products of other industry associations, publications and websites.
•Monitor traffic reports for websites, and develop ideas to increase traffic.
•Edit summaries for inclusion in newsletters for grammar, style and tone for a particular audience.
•Manage off-site freelancers.
•Use online publishing tools to create e-mail newsletters.
•Manage relationships with content providers.
•Respond to reader comments and suggestions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Proven writing and editing skills.
•Must have an understanding of HTML, XHTML, XML and content management systems (knowledge of Java and Flash a plus)
•Demonstrated experience creating rich media content and writing for the web.
•Ability to work in the fast-paced environment of the web, juggling multiple projects at once
•Ability to assign work to, and oversee, the editorial/production staff for contributions to web features
•Understanding of social media channels and networks and how to use as tools to engage and grow audience
•Video and audio production and editing skills a plus
•Ability to write and edit quickly and accurately on deadline.
•Thorough understanding of how to find news and information of use to the hospitality/meetings industry.
•Facility for using online publishing tools.
•Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
•Proven record of taking initiative, sharing responsibilities and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
•Ability to analyze reader trends and statistics.
•Must enjoy shaping content and setting editorial tone and be deadline-driven.
•Solid news judgment and maintain quality of content across all digital channels
•Knowledge of business travel, hospitality or meetings industries a plus
•Some travel required
