The Editor in the Psychology Press group will be responsible for commissioning new projects in select areas of psychology aimed primarily at the academic and student market. This will involve assessing and developing proposals, negotiating contracts, and managing contracted projects through to publication and beyond.

Strategic planning and analysis of trends in the discipline and market will be essential to ensure the successful development of the list. The role will involve building strong working relationships externally with authors, series editors, societies and others working in the field; and internally with co-workers in the Editorial team and other departments, including Marketing, Sales and Production.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be required, including the ability to present projects to an editorial committee and to represent the company professionally to authors and other external contacts.

A solid financial sense will be necessary to prepare and analyze financial data, and to budget and track costs.

Exemplary organizational skills, including the use of databases and spreadsheets, are needed for this role.

The position will involve frequent convention and campus travel throughout North America.


BA or equivalent educational experience. At least 2 years’ experience as an Associate Editor or Editor.
