Fashion Editor + Writer (Full-time)
ALIVE Magazine, a monthly fashion, culture and lifestyle publication in St. Louis, MO seeks a full-time Fashion Editor and staff writer. Candidates must be enthusiastic, self-starting leaders that are able to handle tight deadlines, juggle multiple projects and develop compelling content at an established but evolving media company.The Fashion Editor reports to senior editors and works closely with ALIVE’s staff, freelancers and intern team to produce content for ALIVE’s print publications, online magazine and other digital products.Much of the Fashion Editor’s time will be devoted to planning, writing and producing photo shoots for print and web editions, but a portion will also be spent representing ALIVE on television and radio and attending magazine events. The candidate must be able to execute on multiple projects and motivate other team players and subordinates along the way. The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller with fashion expertise and a passion for informing and entertaining St. Louisans with style and lifestyle content.Responsibilities include:• Serve as topic area editor for Fashion, Beauty, Home and Bridal content• Working closely with the editorial team to produce ALIVE’s fashion and shopping news stories, style trend pages on a monthly basis and features throughout the year• Forecasting national fashion trends and how they will play out in the local retail scene, then pitching/planning the coverage appropriately to best suit ALIVE’s readers and retail partners• Tracking local shopping news across fashion, home, gifts, bridal and specialty shopping, and reporting on that news in print and online• Building and nurturing relationships with ALIVE’s fashion partners including boutiques, department stores and fashion brands via face time, appropriate coverage and special event attendance• Pulling looks from local retailers for monthly style product photo shoots, cover shoots or other shoots as needed; Cataloging product loans and manage pick-up and return of items for editorial photo shoots• Liaise between freelance fashion stylists, fashion photographer and ALIVE editorial team on editorial fashion shoots• Producing content for ALIVE’s blogs on a daily/near-daily basis, including coverage of trend reports, looks of the week, shopping news, fashion events, and sponsored posts as needed• Oversight of ALIVE’s shopping guide (store listings) in print and online, adding new stores as they open, removing stores as they close and keeping the information accurate on a regular basis• Oversee print and online bridal guides (store and wedding vendor listings), adding new stores as they open, removing stores as they close and keeping the information accurate on a regular basis• Writing and overseeing sourcing of home design stories and wedding stories• Mentor interns• Represent ALIVE on the media (avg 1-2 per month, plus many more for Saint Louis Fashion Week) and at events (1-3 per week, including weekends, plus Saint Louis Fashion Week attendance at all events)• Provides overall styling direction for ALIVE’s fashion shows, including but not limited to ALIVE Bride fashion show and Saint Louis Fashion Week• Seeing him/herself as a representative of ALIVE’s brand on his/her personal social media accounts• Oversee content for Style Notes email newsletter• Proofing editorial pages alongside other editors before and during press week to ensure accuracy and quality of entire magazine• Strong work ethic and attention to detail a must• Excellent written and oral communication skills required• Degree in journalism, communications, PR or English and a degree or prior training or experience in the fashion industry preferred.• Knowledge about St. Louis neighborhoods and cultural amenities desired• Fashion writing and/or styling experience a plus• 1-2+ years’ experience working in a fast-paced team-driven environment desired• Experience at a magazine preferred; digital writing for a media company a plus; desire to contribute to the growth of a growing media enterprise a must• Drive to not only complete required duties, but also look for ways to innovate and make processes more efficient desired• Experience in multimedia content creation, including video, podcast and overall digital content management a plus• Track record of meeting deadlines a must• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; experience with InDesign preferredApply online at ALIVEMag.com, then follow up with an email to Kelly@alivemag.com that includes a cover letter, any writing clips/portfolio tears and resumes.
