The McClatchy Company is looking for an experienced digital leader to oversee company-wide video operations. Over the past year, McClatchy has launched an ambitious video initiative and is now adding a high-level position to move this effort forward across our 30 newspapers, websites and apps and tablets. The Product Manager will coordinate video efforts in news, advertising and audience development, work with McClatchy’s newsrooms, digital operations and advertising departments and leverage our more than 40 million monthly unique users. Candidates should have experience launching video products, strong leadership and management skills, financial acumen, strategic development and execution skills, and the ability to work with and influence a cross-section of colleagues. We will value a record of creating successful products and solutions, building audience and understanding digital journalism and the media business.The position will be based at McClatchy’s Washington, D.C., offices and will report to the vice president of news, with connections to key news and advertising leaders. Responsibilities will include:• Working with company leaders on editorial and business strategies for video• Leading the expansion of our video advertising operations• Establishing publishing routines, placement and presentation of video across all digital platforms• Working with newsrooms to establish standards, video styles and metrics• Developing video products that can be shared across McClatchy markets, with options for localizing and customizing• Overseeing relations with partners and vendors• Helping form a central video staff to support these goals• Improving training efforts to help newsrooms and advertising staffs• Overseeing revenue streams and capital spending for video production • Working with all to grow video traffic Requirements (specific and job-related):Education: College degree required.Special Training: Minimum of 5 years digital editorial experience. Extensive background in video required. Business and product development experience preferred.Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years journalism experience preferred.Skills Needed: Strong leadership skills, strategic thinking experience and the ability to work across a broad cross-section of contributors. Excellent news judgment; advanced communication, collaboration and coaching skills. Strong understanding of what inspires people to share information. Also creative and excellent interpersonal, problem solving, leadership and organization skills required.Personal Attributes: Energy, flexibility, and the ability to monitor a vast amount of information for a wide audience, matched with discerning judgment.
