Job Description

National Journal Group is seeking a media savvy Web Designer to join its digital product team. Working under the direction of National Journal’s digital design lead, this individual will coordinate with product managers, editors, sales and technology staff to produce design concepts and solutions for the National Journal Group’s diverse portfolio of online products. The ideal candidate will have a strong user-interface design focus and an understanding of user-interface standards, information architecture, and digital best practices.

Responsibilities Include:

•Develop compelling and crisp design concepts for National Journal’s websites and email products
•Propose design solutions to the company’s senior leaders
•Work with a cross-functional team of product managers, editors, sales staff and technology staff to define and execute against an aggressive digital strategy
•Create and refine various design deliverables including wireframes, mock ups, user flows, site maps and style guides
•Work closely with technology team to ensure feasibility and scalability of design
•A roll-up-your sleeves attitude; willing to tackle projects both large and small with enthusiasm

Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:

•2+ years professional experience in an online visual design role, supported by relevant academic training
•Experience designing both large-scale initiatives and quick-turnaround website, email and on-brand advertising/promotional projects
•Experience creating designs from conception through launch
•Proficiency with common web technologies including AJAX, HTML5 and responsive design, XML and CSS. Familiarity with compatibility and cross-platform issues related to the major browsers and operating systems
•Demonstrated skill/experience in information architecture
•Proficiency in full Adobe Creative Suite
•Excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize , strong attention to detail, comfortable presenting to senior staff
•Combination of in-house and agency experience preferred
