HarperCollins has an industry-leading consumer insight program that helps us to drive decisions for our authors. It is built on massive amounts of data on book consumers and their relationship with our authors / books that we gather in weekly online research. We use the insight to drive every aspect of our relationship with authors: from acquisition to concept testing and marketing / sales planning.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity within this team to help drive the project forward by overseeing the use of consumer insight and inspiring its use in our US Children’s and US General Books businesses.

In this role you will:
- Quickly master the existing consumer insight program and how it is being used around the business.
- Be a passionate advocate of the use of our consumer insight program. You’ll be the face of it in each of our imprints around the building day-to-day.
- Help the business to submit the authors and books for the research that we can have the biggest impact on.

Our global team will then quickly conduct the research and deliver simple but powerful visualizations via an online dashboard. From there you’ll engage and inspire people:
- Let the business know the results are back and follow-up 1:1 with people who submitted authors and books.
- Help the business to interpret and make use of the insight. Tease out the key messages. Bring it to life for them.
- You’ll be encouraged to help people to self-serve. But you’ll also be asked to present the results to teams internally and to authors and their agents and inspire them.
- Share the best uses of insight as case studies to help inspire others around the business to stretch themselves in their use of insight.

A key objective beyond inspiring people with the insight is to turn that insight in to action by discovering:
- What (if any) opportunities are there for the author / book – helping people discover, re-engaging lapsed fans, better engaging core fans, etc.?
- Which consumer segments and demographics are opportunities for the book / author?
- Given the opportunities and the consumers, which marketing, product formats, pricing, sales channels, etc. would the insight recommend?

As one of the biggest users of consumer insight in the HarperCollins world, you’ll be in a unique position to shape the future of our insight program by:
- Channeling feedback and ideas from the business to the global team so that they can improve and evolve the program.
- Testing, piloting and (if appropriate) facilitating the rollout of cutting edge new research methodologies and tools.


We are considering candidates with a variety of backgrounds and years’ experience and the title will depend on these factors, but will range from Manager to Director.

- A passion for interpreting quantitative data (preferably consumer insight) and teasing out the story that the data tells
- Passionate about helping a large number of people working on a large number of books / authors to make use of consumer insight
- Expert level experience with PowerPoint
- Ability to inspire people when presenting research results
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management
- No prior knowledge of book publishing is required
