The dean’s office at the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS), is seeking a versatile and experienced writer/editor to produce well-written, informed, and highly polished communications for the dean.

The writer will work closely with the dean to understand the strategic direction of the School and to research, write, and edit a variety of communications including, but not limited to, content for presentations; highly personalized correspondence; proposal letters; speeches; comments for dedication and award ceremonies; announcements; concept papers; documents and introductory materials for official reports such as academic and strategic plans, the budget, etc.; talking points; remarks; social media; and other special projects.

Responsibilities include:

•A strong knowledge of, and experience in using, the Chicago Manual, as well as adherence to the NYU-SCPS style guide.
•Proofreading all communications generated by the Dean’s Office to ensure flawlessly written materials.
•Developing an in-depth understanding of the School’s academic offerings, the NYU-SCPS brand, and the University dynamic.
•Becoming knowledgeable about higher education trends, issues, and developments, here and abroad.
•Conducting different forms of research and synthesizing information into clear and compelling communications.
•Strong relationship building skills with the ability to interface with School and university staff at all levels.
•Managing multiple projects simultaneously on deadline.
•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising excellent judgment and discretion; with final approval for all communications from the dean.
•Developing a social media presence to keep a variety of audiences—faculty, students, staff, the business community—informed about new initiatives, organizational changes, committee reports, etc.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or English and 3 years' experience writing for a senior-level executive in a university or non-profit organization or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's Degree in Communications, Journalism, or English is preferred. The successful candidate will have the ability to master the voice of the dean and the brand. A proven track record of developing and writing both long and short pieces on deadline is required, as well as exceptional writing, copyediting, concept ideation, researching, and proofreading skills, with an eye and ear for detail and continuity.
