Don’t miss a unique career opportunity in our corporate headquarters and news bureau in Washington, D.C.—one in which you will work together with remarkable professionals who contribute toward making a difference in places where free media doesn’t exist. Our mission is to provide accurate and reliable news and information to domestic audiences in their local languages. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) broadcasts news in 28 languages and attracts nearly 23.4 million weekly listeners and online visitors. We are currently looking for a seasoned senior news correspondent and a correspondent.

The successful candidates will have a wide brief, from covering Washington to writing stories in collaboration with RFE/RL's language services and reporting on events of interest to RFE/RL's broadcast region, a vastly diverse area spanning from Eastern Europe to Pakistan's tribal regions.

Our ideal candidates are journalists with at least eight years' experience for the senior position and five years for the correspondent position. You are a team player with a flexible schedule and used to working under tight deadlines. You have excellent writing skills, an interest in Eurasia, and an impressive roster of contacts. Fluent knowledge of at least one foreign language, especially Russian, is a definite plus, as is experience with audio, video, social media, and web posting.

The senior correspondent position will have editorial responsibilities including assigning pieces and editing and posting work produced by colleagues.

In covering Washington you are expected to have or develop good contacts within the U.S. government and Congress. You will be proactive in generating and delivering news, features, analyses, and interviews related to U.S. foreign policy and domestic developments, all tailored to an international audience. You also will be assigned U.S.-based reporting on significant international stories and, on occasion, cultural, science, or economic topics.

You also will work closely with RFE/RL's language services. This cooperation takes many forms, including
-- responding to language-service requests for interviews, follow-up reporting on regional stories, and coverage of DC events
-- writing stories based on on-the-ground reporting from one or more of our broadcast countries
-- teaming up with our journalists in the region to co-produce stories that include reporting from DC and inside the RFE/RL region

The successful candidate(s) will report to the director of RFE/RL's English-language Central Newsroom in Prague. We offer a unique mission, competitive salaries and excellent benefits.
