Mr. Hiring Manager
Full Time
Sactown magazine, the Sacramento region's largest magazine with a circulation of 40,000, is searching for a talented Art Director with a strong work ethic and extensive experience in print publication design, preferably with at least some experience in web design.

While full-time is preferred, a part-time position may be considered. And while art director experience is preferred, this is also an opportunity for an experienced associate or assistant art director or designer to take the top job at this highly ambitious city magazine.

The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, able to multitask and work well under pressure, and be willing to put in additional hours on deadline. The candidate must have the ability to juggle multiple projects.

The candidate must be extremely proficient with the Mac OS system, as well as Adobe InDesign CS 5.5, Photoshop and Illustrator. Familiarity with Adobe InCopy is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have excellent production skills such as color correcting, pre-flighting, press check experience, etc. The art director will also be responsible for shipping each issue to the printer.

As a one-person art department, the candidate will work closely with and report directly to the owners/editors-in-chief.

Main duties will include laying out the bimonthly magazine (with plans to go monthly), designing features and departments, and maintaining and updating the design and functionality of the magazine's website: We also plan to launch a digital edition in 2014 and this position will also oversee that effort.

Secondary duties will include occasional ad design and the design of miscellaneous marketing materials ranging from advertising media kits to sales collateral material and more.

Experience in publication design (magazine or alt-weekly) is required. Please do not apply without any professional publication experience.
