Smithsonian Digital Enterprises seeks an experienced Web Support/UX Developer to join our Web Services Team in our Washington DC office. The Web Services team provides services to all Smithsonian Enterprises divisions in the development and operation of program websites. Divisions include Media, Travel, Retail, and Consumer & Educational Products. The Web Support UX Developer assists programmers with front end integration of new features, publishing content updates from internal stakeholders, theming marketing microsites and assisting the Senior Producer with new project and product initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Convert designs into fully semantic, responsive web sites.
•Building and updating web marketing initiatives.
•Manipulate and upload images and text for Smithsonian magazine including editorial and other content updates as needed.
•Assists in proofing and quality testing new content on Smithsonian Enterprises web sites to ensure accuracy and functionality.
•Assists in content updates for Smithsonian Journeys website.
•Provides website technical support for Smithsonian Magazine, Air & Space Magazine and Smithsonian Journeys.
•Works with Senior Producer to create and implement non-standard advertising programs, (sweepstakes, micro-sites, email). Acts as producer within department and with outside vendors.
•Develop, implement and manage style guides sheets for internal and external SE digital development in order to ensure the site consistency and integrity as new designs, styles and programs are adopted and implemented.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from a four-year college or university with 3-5 years related experience.

•Ability to utilize standard web development tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite & HTML or text based editors
•Experience in the use of web-based content management systems and MVC template based websites.
•Excellent attention to detail, communication skills and a well-developed ability to multi-task.
•Strong familiarity with day-to-day website production and the tools utilized in all aspects of web work.
•Experience and talent working both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
•Ability to be flexible during times of change, shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
•Strong written & verbal communications.
•Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies and tools.

Technical Knowledge

•HTML/HTML5, jQuery, JavaScript, Github. CSS, SCSS, Responsive Design.
•Fluency with Git and Fabric for production and staging deployments.
•Fluency with hand coding HTML using a plain text editor.
•Applying usability and accessibility standards when writing code.
•Ability to flawlessly convert Photoshop designs into an HTML/HTML5 working websites.
•Knowledgeable with MySQL, SSH, FTP, SFTP, RSYNC, XML, and Cloud Computing.
•Ability to develop and modify templates within a Python based Django-CMS systems.
•Ability to assist in cloud server management, including spinning up and down new instances, deploying salt states for general access, and debugging performance issues using developer tools.
•Ability to dig into programmatic code and hunt down and report the cause of errors.

Salary: $55k - $68k annually, depending on experience.
