Job Description

The Atlantic is seeking a resourceful, ambitious editor to drive the growth and impact of its new digital magazine, The Atlantic Weekly. This journalist will also be expected to edit in-depth, narrative stories and essays for TheAtlantic.com. In both roles, this editor, who will report to The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, will be helping lead our efforts to reimagine high-impact magazine-making for mobile platforms.

Responsibilities Include:

•Choosing, editing, and packaging stories for the Weekly
•Rapidly creating and executing new features to expand the Weekly’s offerings
•Devising strategies to increase distribution and visibility of the Weekly, including via social media
•Editing magazine-style stories for TheAtlantic.com

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

•Editorial imagination and energy
•Sophisticated understanding of impact and distribution in the digital environment, including an understanding of performance analytics
•Minimum two years of experience editing ambitious magazine stories
•Proven skill at packaging stories, including writing headlines and collaborating with designers and developers
•Excellent communication skills; this editor will be expected to work collaboratively across The Atlantic’s platforms.
