Position Profile:

Bloomsbury Children’s group is looking for a Senior Editor to join our team. This role is responsible for all areas of book development, including acquiring, editing, liaising with design, production, managing editorial, marketing, and publicity.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Acquire and edit approximately 15 new books per year across all age levels
• Responsible for all editorial aspects of book development, including editing, liaising with design, production, managing editorial, marketing, and publicity; copywriting including jacket, catalog, tip sheets, design memos, and other marketing copy as required.
• Manage and mentor an associate editor
• Negotiate acquisitions with agents
• Maintain production schedules and meet deadlines.
• Present projects at editorial, acquisitions, pre-launch, launch, and other sales meetings as necessary.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with authors, agents and industry organizations.
• Collaborate with UK colleagues on shared projects
• Represent Bloomsbury at industry events and trade conferences throughout the year

Selection Criteria:

• Minimum 7-10 years experience in children’s book editorial publishing with titles ranging from picture books to young adult.
• Widespread knowledge of book publishing processes and functions (editorial, managing editorial, production, design, copyediting, marketing, sales).
• Excellent intra- and inter-departmental communication and collaboration skills necessary.
• Excellent computer skills especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Must have considerable current contacts (key authors, illustrators, agents, etc.) in the book publishing industry.
• Organization, analytic and verbal and written communication skills a must.
• Highly motivated, a self-starter, and results driven, with the ability to take appropriate steps to achieve goals.
• Some travel required.
