TMZ, the world’s most-cited entertainment news source, and the first successful three-screen multi-platform media company, is looking for a Director of Digital Media. In this role, you’ll oversee operations and product development on all of TMZ’s sites, including,,, and We’re looking for a strong leader who is passionate about digital product, and who has the experience and knowledge to succeed across multiple platforms in a fast-paced, competitive news environment.

The Director of Digital Media will be an innovative strategic thinker with extensive understanding of tech trends and digital product in a constantly changing market. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of product development on desktop and mobile, and will develop and manage multi-faceted product roadmaps. Additionally, you’ll be a hands-on leader and coach, who can work effectively with many stakeholders and successfully drive projects from concept to completion. This position reports to the Executive Producers and General Manager, and will have management responsibilities across TMZ.

The position is located in Los Angeles (Playa Vista - 90094).


•Oversight of TMZ’s daily digital operations
•Ownership of the product development roadmap
•Creation of digital product requirements including UX, design and development
•Work with appropriate department heads to track traffic metrics
•Work hand-in-hand with engineering, sales, and partners to compile product requirements and features
•Manage cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams, and partner with editorial throughout the product development lifecycles
•Work with others to develop new digital product partnerships and opportunities
•Generate and manage product development budgets
•Follow competitive market trends and patterns
•Effectively manage and communicate with teams to ensure that goals and timelines are met
•Identify, implement, and analyze relevant metrics reporting and analytics for web and mobile (SEO/KPI’s, etc.)
•Liaison and manage external vendors and partners


•Minimum of 7 years consumer-facing digital media experience in a news or publishing organization
•Proven leadership ability and demonstrated management skills with a major digital publishing brand
•Proven track record creating impactful digital desktop and mobile products
•Extensive real world understanding of related digital disciplines, including social media, SEO/SEM, search, video, mobile, and web development
•Experience with multiple CMS platforms
•Experience managing high-performing cross-functional teams in a high volume CMS-driven web-publishing environment
•Exposure to major programming technologies, including PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, XCODE, Java, and/or .NET
•Experience drafting thorough and clear product requirements
•Experience overseeing design (design comps and wireframes)
•Experience with using analytics tools, including Omniture, Google Analytics, Flurry
•Excellent problem solving and team building capabilities
•Superior communication and presentation skills
•High level of planning and organization skills
•Visionary, outside the box thinking
•High level of attention to detail
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
•Excellent analytical and quantitative evaluation skills
•Bachelors degree in related field (or not)
