Garland Science is looking for an enthusiastic, career-oriented Editorial Assistant to work in our NY office on our growing list of biology, molecular biology, neurobiology, and immunology textbooks and media. The Editorial Assistant will be responsible for contributing to the overall success of the book list and media offerings. You will interface with editorial, marketing, financial, and contractual aspects of publishing. This is an important support role for a prestigious science textbook list.

Key responsibilities include:
--Accurately track the status of projects
--Evaluate and prepare manuscripts for transmittal to production
--Maintain author communication via phone and email
--Initiate reviews of manuscripts and contribute analysis in communication with authors
--Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the editorial, production, and marketing departments as well as with outside freelancers
--Create and maintain, on a timely basis: standard reports, forms, contracts, and files
--Conduct market (course) research with a view to understanding the market
--Prepare and proofread book information for cover copy and other marketing purposes
--Provide administrative support and manage product databases

According to experiences and interests, responsibilities may include:
--Assist in the development, deployment, and management of websites.
--Assist in the development of animations, videos, and interactive teaching tools
--Assist in the creation of eBooks and related products
--Provide customer support for websites and rich media.

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a biology or science subject area is desirable. Experience in higher education editorial preferred. Candidate must arrive with excellent organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal), be able to prioritize multiple tasks, be detail oriented, demonstrate a high degree of computer proficiency, possess a strong intellectual curiosity while remaining task oriented, and be committed to the overall goals of academic publishing.
