We are hiring for a full-time assistant to the owner of the company. Internships certainly help but do not qualify as experience unless it was full-time.

Ideal candidate will have one to two years full-time work assistant experience in a related field (i.e. publishing, media, entertainment). He/She will be highly organized, career-minded, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Being flexible, having a good sense of humor, and an old-fashioned work ethic are highly valued. Critical reading skills with an interest in contemporary writing (narrative non-fiction, literary fiction, business/economics, cultural criticism) are important. (This is not for those who prefer reading classics, poetry...). Tech literacy a plus.

Responsibilities include: tracking submissions, contracts, and money; managing high volume of calls and emails, working with service providers (tech, accounting, etc); reading and providing editorial coverage for client work and incoming submissions (including manuscripts, proposals, tv and feature scripts); liaising with the rest of the office staff in the managing of the office.

One year full-time experience as an assistant (does not have to be publishing) is a must.
