Quayside Publishing Group is excited to announce an opening for an Editorial Director with a keen sense of children’s markets/ trends and experience with licensed properties for our rapidly expanding non-fiction Children’s imprint, Walter Foster Jr. Reporting to the President, this position provides a unique opportunity to join a company committed to encouraging creativity and sparking the imaginations of children of all ages.

The Editorial Director will manage and direct the creation or acquisition of all products under the Walter Foster Jr. imprint to ensure cohesive branding and continuity of tone, look, and content required to maintain and grow the brand. This position requires a flexible attitude, as the individual selected will be required to wear multiple hats.

Key Results Areas:
Implement and manage a strategy to build a strong list each season. Identify areas of opportunity within the marketplace and propose plans to take advantage of these opportunities. Ensure new product is developed contributing to market leading print and digital programs and respond to market driven product opportunities.

•Develop and present acquisition submissions for product approval. Work to conceptualize new lines, formats, concepts, and other product-based initiatives.
•Develop a profitability analysis for each proposed project that meets margin requirements for approval.
•Set and maintain production schedules. Ensure efficient and timely editorial workflow of projects.
•Develop and review budgets, and work with Sales, Production, and the President to finalize and approve.
•Work with the Director of Digital Marketing to develop and implement a strategy that incorporates digital elements into Walter Foster Jr. products, as appropriate. Explore additional opportunities in digital products.
•Responsible for the editorial and graphic elements for all projects.
•Evaluate outside submissions, and oversee the external submissions process. Seek, develop, and maintain strong relationships with external talent that can provide concepts for development.
•Recommend and attend relevant trade shows to grow business.
•Work with outside packagers and publishers to acquire titles for the program.

Position Specifications:
•Strong experience within the Children’s marketplace.
•Previous publishing, licensing, and/or children’s book experience a plus.
•Leadership skills as well as trend and brand or re-branding experience.
•Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
•Superior time management, multitasking, organizational, and communication skills.
•Excellent writing, editing, proofing, and copyediting skills.
•Working knowledge of Mac, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Adobe InDesign / Photoshop experience a plus).
