Associate Art Director, Gift/Paper Products
ABRAMS seeks a talented individual, with a passion for all things related to paper, packaging, and product design, to collaborate on the creation and execution of paper products, gift books and calendars. This is an exciting opportunity to manage all aspects of art and design and help craft the overall aesthetic and identity of a newly launched product line. Individual will be responsible for managing, supporting and driving the design process for 20-25 paper products and 20-25 calendars per year; overseeing projects from conception through production; brainstorming original formats and creatively developing submissions or external ideas; scouting and hiring illustrators, photographers, paper engineers and freelance designers; art directing creative talent. This is both a management and hands-on position! Qualifications include a minimum of 5 - 10 years' design experience in book publishing and/or product development; current knowledge of the gift market and an ability to identify opportunities; ability to transcend the "design umbrella" and think editorially as well as consider the marketing and sales aspects; excellent time-management and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and juggle the various moving parts of the product development process; knowledge of the manufacturing and production process for novelty. Proficiency with current Adobe Design Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Illustrator and freelance design contacts a must. Previous work with licensors a plus; hand lettering and illustration skills a major plus.
