Description: The Office of Communications seeks a digital content developer with proven experience in visual communications and digital messaging. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in creation, organization, layout, and optimization of content for Web, social media, and other electronic products, including copy, metadata, visual elements, and other digital assets. Candidate will write and edit content, and use design principles and user interface standards to produce images and graphics for digital use.

Candidate will contribute to the overall communications strategy for the Office of the Clerk and specialize in developing original digital content, repurposing print material for digital use, performing content updates using a content management system, and ensure currency and accuracy of existing digital assets. Will advise on and implement editorial guidelines for digital content based on industry-standard best practices, and document processes regulating content development and maintenance.

Candidate will have the ability to gather and analyze user, technical, organizational, and communications requirements to create and execute successful information architecture and content development strategies. Will have a strong understanding of best practices used to scale Web content for mobile, social media, and other digital use.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the congressional legislative process and history of the U.S. House of Representatives.

This position requires the ability to work at a small workstation in an office environment without an expectation of privacy where noise levels are usually moderate. Candidates must have a willingness to accept overtime on short notice. Interested parties must work well under pressure and work professionally, cooperatively, and courteously in a small cross-functional team of content developers and editors, graphic designers, and multimedia developers.

• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, with a bachelor’s degree in digital or visual communications, or a related field required;
• Extensive experience as a writer and editor for digital publications in the communications or government sector; excellent skills in writing and editing communications for internal and external audiences (such as Web and email communications, and social media messaging); editing for search engine optimization, style, substance, organization, grammar, balance, tone, and other considerations; and providing content direction;
• Knowledge of visual communications; design, color, and typography principals; and development of images and graphics for digital use;
• Strong understanding of information architecture, and cross-platform compatibility and scalability of content and visual elements for Web, mobile, social media, and other digital mediums;
• Proficiency with PC and Mac platforms; content management systems, HTML/CSS, MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media tools;
• Strong skills in oral communications and project management are required;
• Must be detail-oriented and be able to drive projects to completion;
• Ability to innovate, prioritize and multi-task.
