The editorial assistant assists the editors, freelance writers and senior project (production) editor with a wide range of editorial, photo, research and administrative support duties.

The scope of this position is to:
•Help ensure the editorial and visual quality and timeliness of Researcher content
•Manage multiple projects with competing priorities
•Solve problems proactively before they can affect the production schedule
•Liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including freelance writers and other content contributors and product development team members

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Help select high-quality photographs within budget, including author photos for At Issue columns
•Prepare author contracts for managing editor's approval
•Complete payment forms for photo, freelance and other invoices promptly and accurately for managing editor's approval
•Solicit "At Issue" (pro/con) essays from contributors as needed
•Track the flow of freelance copy, author contracts, permission forms, deadlines and At Issue submissions
•Perform writing, copyediting or proofing tasks as assigned
•Prepare Next Step feature for reports by assigned deadline
•Review final PDFs to ensure all corrections accurately made
•Research, assemble and write graphics content for Researcher reports
•Complete monthly index
•Contribute to topic development for Researcher reports
•Research report-topic needs with faculty and librarians, review available syllabi for course trends and contribute to topic development

Qualifications and Education:

•Minimum of bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
•Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position on a quality news-oriented publication
•Excellent skills in writing, research, copyediting, grammar, punctuation, proofreading
•Computer skills, with a proficiency in Microsoft Word, Lexis-Nexis, HTML, Excel, website updating, social media
•Thorough knowledge of AP style
