Director of Marketing and Sales

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is a New York-based national nonprofit devoted to the teaching and learning of American history. Gilder Lehrman provides a broad range of innovative programs and resources that help new generations of students learn about American history in a way that is engaging, memorable, and promotes lifelong critical thinking skills.

Summary of Position:
Gilder Lehrman seeks a full-time Director of Marketing and Sales to develop and carry out marketing and sales for the Institute’s education programs. The Institute has recently created a Common-Core aligned program called Teaching Literacy through History that combines professional development strategies for using the Common Core, with printed materials and web-based resources for teachers and students.

The ideal candidate will be able to work with all departments of the Institute and will have familiarity with K-12 education markets, specifically with the Common Core State Standards. He or she will have a proven ability in sales and marketing, with a minimum of three years of experience. Classroom experience is a plus, but not required.

•Planning: Create and carry out sales campaign for education programs.
•Research: Identify consumer requirements, define specific markets and competitors and establish targeted market share.
•Establish Annual Goals: Improve product profitability by revamping packaging and branding, coordinating new product development, promoting programs and increasing revenue.
•Outreach: Establish and maintain positive relationships with school districts and other potential sources of revenue.

•Bachelor's degree .
•At least 3 years of professional experience in marketing and/or sales.
•Interest in American history.
•Experience in marketing K-12 education programs, a plus.
•Classroom experience, but not required.

•Excellent written and oral communications skills.
•Problem-solving abilities.
•Strong interpersonal, organizational, and tech skills.
•Familiarity with sales systems.
