The planning producer is part of the team responsible for planning, developing and commissioning news coverage and package producing primarily by bureau teams for future air dates (beyond day-of-air)


Participate in editorial meetings; propose ideas regarding news coverage and story selection
Plan editorial story development, set time schedules, define coverage and treatment needed
Deploy teams and handle logistics (tickets, visas, equipment, paper and administrative work)
Maintain constant contact with bureau teams latest events, news and story developments
Monitor news wires, news agencies and other news sources
Coordinate with assignment desk regarding follow up
Coordinate with the graphics team regarding specific needs for packages
Coordinate with the interview desk regarding potential guests
Coordinate with translators and editors to connect pictures with translation as needed
Coordinate with the satellite desk to book time slots for live stories and interviews
Conduct interviews with guests when needed; field produce as required
Work on assignment desk when required
Perform other duties relevant to the job as requested

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Proven leadership skills
Proven ability to pitch, develop, plan and execute stories on deadline
Demonstrably strong writing, researching, communication, interpersonal skills
Strong news judgment; strong knowledge of national and international news
Proven ability to work under pressure; manage story development; meet deadlines; problem solve; multi-task, communicate and coordinate with multiple teams
Detail oriented, adaptable, cooperative

Education & Experience:

Bachelor degree in Journalism, Media, Communications or related fields is preferable
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in TV news or related fields
