Quayside Publishing Group is seeking a Production/Design Assistant for our Beverly, MA location. The primary job responsibility is to manage the reprint program for a 1000+ title backlist for 5 publishing imprints in a fast-paced work environment. This position will also provide support for the design department. We also need someone experienced with Indesign (Mac platform) to make last minute corrections to our book files. Note that this job is more administrative than it is creative. We are looking for a highly-organized individual with a desire to work in the print management field.

Key Results Areas
A.Production Responsibilities:
1.Gather reprint quotes from overseas and U.S. vendors.
2.Compile reprint packet information from different sources.
3.Update copyright pages and perform reprint corrections to design files as necessary.
4.Follow through on text corrections to the repro house and then coordinate their quick release to the printer.
5.Maintain detailed records in our database system.
6.Work closely with the shipping manager regarding reprint schedules.
7.Execute reprint purchase orders to the vendors.
8.Occasionally assist the co-edition manager with multi-language editions, following up with international customers and our international sales team.

B.Design Responsibilities:
1.In-house corrections to final rounds of lasers when needed.
2.Paperback conversions, bind-ups, and reformatted content.
3.Reprint corrections.
4.Design management on buy-ins and packaged titles.
5.Traffic packages to and from vendors for both design and production.
6.Update the image library.
7.Additional support for daily design tasks in the design department.
8.Additional support for art directors and design managers as needed.

C.Imaging Responsibilities:
1.Retrieving files from FTP sites or receiving from freelancers on disk, placing files in server, ect.
2.Making final review changes to photo, illustration, and layout files as requested.
3.Checking digital images for appropriate size and quality.
4.Preparing files for transmittal of projects to production.
5.Design management for paperback reissues and bind-ups as assigned.
6.Assisting Design Managers in reviewing prepress page proofs for accuracy.
7.Handle file conversions for short run or print-on-demand projects.
8.Updating the image library.
9.Retouching or manipulating digital images to improve print quality.

Position Specifications
A.Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
-Macintosh platform.
-Basic Indesign.
-Quark familiarity.
-Excel and Word.
-Databases and accounting software programs.
-Page layout skills.
-Image manipulation and retouching skills.
-High level of attention to detail.
-Ability to take direction and complete tasks quickly.

B.Education and Experience
-4 year degree or equivalent work experience in related field.
-Book publishing experience desired.
