At Cambridge University Press, we are expanding our medical publishing program and are seeking a new colleague to join our global team. Building on our success in psychiatry, neurology and reproductive medicine, we aim to appoint an experienced commissioning editor for our medical books department, based in New York. You will be responsible for defined areas of the medical programme and will manage lists, acquire new projects and contribute to the publishing strategy generally. Your primary responsibility will be for books and other information products; however, you will work closely with colleagues in our journals division to identify and develop new leads. You will work to develop and implement ideas for the expansion of the medical list and commission new book titles in agreed disciplines, and in all information formats. You will work with colleagues in production, marketing and sales to deliver integrated, cost-controlled and market–led publishing. In addition you will prepare sales budgets, supervise and manage the issuing of contracts and manage publishing projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget. You will be able to demonstrate considerable experience in biomedical book commissioning with a track record of successful acquisitions, and have a relevant background including an associated degree. Experience in online books and other digital products would be an advantage. You will be highly organised and able to prioritise tasks. A confident team member you will have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a self-motivated approach to work and be able to work without active supervision. This role requires extensive national and overseas travel to enable you to meet editorial and publishing objectives. This is an exciting time to join the Cambridge medical team and a great opportunity to shape our publishing for the future.
