Sixth & Spring seeks an experienced Managing Editor to manage a list of approximately 20 art and craft titles per year. Managing Editor will serve as the main liaison between authors & Sixth & Spring Books; negotiate author contracts and delivery of material; create and oversee approved book budgets; supervise small team of Editorial, Design and Production staff, create and manage schedules; oversee PR and Marketing Campaigns, copyedit and proofread interiors, jacket copy and marketing materials; manage freelancers and write title descriptions. The Managing Editor will be fully responsible for overseeing all aspects of scheduling and production of the books from concept to publication. Qualified candidates will posses a bachelor's degree; 5+ years' experience as an editor in the book or magazine industry- ideally for a craft book and/or magazine publisher; demonstrated excellence in copyediting and proofreading; proven ability managing freelancers; considerable experience creating and maintaining schedules and meeting deadlines. They must also be extremely organized; flexible; and able to prioritize tasks in order to meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environment. Candidate must be self-motivated; have excellent communication skills and be able to work well with staff across multiple departments. A passion for crafts and/or art is a big plus.
