Position Summary:

The Communications Officer, Vaccine Advocacy and Education will serve as a member of the Vaccine Advocacy and Education team responsible for various duties including, but not limited to, supporting the Director, Special Projects and Executive Vice President through grant/funder opportunities, advocacy and communications efforts, and events and logistics planning. This is an exempt position reporting to the Director, Special Projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Manage specified project implementations, including coordination of all functional areas
•Manage program and event planning activities of specific advocacy projects
•Coordinate international vaccine advocacy project development initiatives
•Provide support for media relations, including creating and maintaining media and partner contact lists, and social media outreach (DVI blog, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube)
•Develop a range of written materials for internal and external audiences across a variety of platforms, including press, social media, fundraising, email, marketing, policy advocacy and web domains
•Assist with creating digital content and reporting on results
•Identify relevant news stories and prepare clips emails for internal and external audiences
•Conduct thorough background research that will support communications activities, including media pitches and social media and video projects
•Manage social media for multiple advocacy projects
•Manage website and web presence for specific projects
•Coordinate and lead working groups on various initiatives, as assigned
•Develop strategies for measuring, evaluating and reporting the impact of advocacy and vaccine education efforts
•Gather regional and disease-specific data and research
•Design and develop consistent research-based materials for outreach, in conjunction with advocacy and communications team
•Assist with the creation of proposals, concept sheets (topics, countries, approaches) and draft reports, as needed
•Assist with program budgets and other financial documents
•Serve as liaison with donors and international partners
•Additional administrative duties, as needed

Experience and Educational Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in related field such as journalism, English, communications/public relations or public health, plus a minimum of 3 years relevant experience
•Excellent communication skills
•Social media/digital/media relations/web work experience
•Superior writing and editing skills with an ability to produce strong first drafts and review team members' work
•Experience managing web presence (websites, social media, etc.)
•Experience with design tools highly desirable
•InDesign or comparable image editing tool skills highly preferred
•Video editing such as Final Cut or comparable tool highly preferred
•Web editing experience or an eagerness to learn Drupal skills preferred
