BPC has an immediate opening for a full-time Press Secretary. This position will support the activities of BPC’s Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative and other BPC projects. The Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative’s overarching objective is to promote policies that balance financial stability, economic growth and consumer protection. The initiative proposes policies to enhance America’s financial prosperity and security and to advance U.S. competitiveness. This new position will report to the Vice President of Communications and the Director of the initiative.


RESPONSIBILITIES

•Proactively interact with top-tier national banking, financial and other media outlets to secure coverage of BPC.
•Maintain and develop close working relationships with reporters at key national and trade print, broadcast and digital outlets.
•Establish BPC as a go-to resource to top journalists on banking and financial issues.
•Generate on the record media opportunities for initiative leadership and staff.
•Successfully secure TV and radio interviews for BPC initiative leadership and staff, specifically on financially-focused outlets.
•Develop and execute communications plan and press strategy for report launches and project initiatives.
•Write press materials, including media advisories, press releases, blog posts, op-eds and talking points.
•Review and contribute to BPC reports, blog and other collateral.
•Work with policy staff to develop messaging for initiative leadership and co-chairs
•Coordinate with Senior Web Producer to manage and contribute website content and social media outreach.
•Coordinate with BPC events team to plan and execute public events.

QUALIFICATIONS

•BA, BS in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field.
•3-5 years of experience as a communications professional with a strong preference for experience in government or industry. Issue area experience related to banking and financial topics preferred.
•Expertise in dealing with national print, online and broadcast media is necessary. A proven track record of attracting key national and trade media attention around reports and other policy initiatives will be critical.
•The ideal candidate will also have experience and capacity in social and digital media.
•The candidate must possess excellent writing and verbal communications skills, and be able to produce high quality press releases, statements, op-eds and other materials rapidly.
•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team and independently are required.
