The Cameraperson Editor for the AJA, NY is responsible for supervising the online news desk while on shift and copy editing all news content that appears online, and will be required to:
•Operation of ENG equipment on location for acquisition of news and programmes material
•Maintain and look after ENG equipment to the highest standard
•Work closely with editorial field teams to deliver high quality live and recorded material from the field
•Meet editorial deadlines for delivery of edited packages
•Assist editorial staff with the pre-planning of news and programmes events
•Operate studio camera during live interviews and reporter live shots
•Operate Dejero and other equipment for live broadcast from the field (BGAN, Autocue, Thuraya IP, DigiLinks )
•Document and report any technical problems encountered with studio and ENG equipment
•Assist with development of new technical workflows and equipment associated with newsgathering
•Edit a variety of items for news and programmes.
•Quality-Checking all news bulletin content
•Ensure all items make their allocated TX deadlines, whether for news or current affairs.
•Possess the ability to listen and effectively communicate ideas
•A key contributor willing to work closely with other team members
•Possess the ability to work independently and make sound judgment about shot and audio selection
•Ability to complete workload without constant guidance from producers, journalists or other editors
•Sound knowledge of broadcast technology. (matrix & talkback panels, phone recording equipment, voice-over recording equipment, computers and related software and hardware)
•Ability to work calmly and effectively in extremely stressful time critical situations
•Able to keep up-to-date with world news and current affairs.

The desired candidate will have a Bachelor degree in media, journalism, communications, broadcast operations or related field; a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an ENG cameraperson and non-linear video editor in a television news environment. Experience in long-form craft editing would also be useful; Knowledge in Online journalism including sourcing, multimedia production and analytics; Knowledge of Al Jazeera integrity and standards; Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines; Ability to be punctual and on time to all shifts; Ability to make shooting and editing decisions; Ability to work shifts (including work long hours, weekends, or overnights); and the ability to foresee and recognize problems far before they happen.
