Electronic Design, which is part of Penton’s Design Engineering & Sourcing Group, has served electrical engineers for more than 60 years across all markets. The brand is now looking for a new team member covering the power technology space. The qualified individual will regularly produce content for the brand web site, a print publication, e-newsletters, and do regular blogs as well as social-medial postings on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of power electronics, including all types of power semiconductors and their myriad applications. The candidate should be well versed in the variety of semiconductor technologies including CMOS, gallium nitride (GaN), and silicon carbide (SiC). He or she should also be knowledgeable about power ICs and the design of their related circuitry for power management, charging, energy harvesting, and power generation—for example, buck and boost dc-dc converters and switch-mode power supplies and inverters, as well as the devices that protect this circuitry (such as thyristors). The candidate should also have a solid grasp of various power-supply topologies, such as POL and SEPIC. In addition, the candidate should have a solid understanding of all types of battery chemistries and their applications—for example, electric vehicles. The candidate should be comfortable covering applications from portable low-power devices to alternative-energy sources like solar panels and wind turbines. Finally, the candidate should have a good understanding of the various thermal and EMI/ESD considerations when designing power circuits.
