Your tasks
Under limited supervision of the Editorial Director, the Senior Editor is responsible for management and development of specific, assigned periodicals and other subscription products in the program, including journals, magazines, databases, and series. He/she also participates as required in initiatives to acquire new products and program wide activities to improve the editorial quality and the profitability of assigned titles. Specific responsibilities within Editorial and Business Management include:

1)Editorial Responsibilities

?Maintain and improve relationships with the Editors-in-Chief, editorial board members, and societies affiliated with journals and related products
?Work as requested with departmental management to prepare new journal proposals or bids for purchase/takeover of existing journals
?Negotiate new or revised contracts for journal and related products, as needed
?Travels to meetings to represent Springer and meet with Editors-in-Chief, authors, and editorial board members.
?Prepare and present documentation for journal editorial board meetings
?Prepare documentation for corporate planning and editorial conferences
?Coordinate and monitor inclusion of journals and related products in indexing and abstracting services
?Work with production department to maintain publication schedule and page budget of journals and related products
?Performs related duties as required


2) Business Management: Recurring and Strategic Support

?Provide data and participate in business plan development strategies aimed at evaluating the acquisition or development of new products
?Provide analysis and business commentary of financial status of titles including editorial and production expenses, subscription status and development of all streams/lines of revenue
?Administer editorial budgets for all journals and related products, consistent with budgetary guidelines and contractual obligations
?Monitor and evaluate fixed asset needs, honoraria, and office expenses of all external journal editorial offices
?Manages other business aspects of all journals and related products, i.e. royalty payments, etc.

Our requirements
?Bachelor degree with 3-5 years? experience working on journals or related products
?Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
?Competence with basic financial database and word processing software
?Travel domestically and internationally, as required
