Mashable is seeking a full-time, hard-charging editor to lead our US & World coverage. The world is changing fast and digital is riding sidecar on virtually every seismic shift. The turmoil in the Middle East, the rough and tumble world of politics, the nexus of policy and digital engagement, technology -- especially social, viral and mobile -- all play a role. Mashable is searching for an editor who gets this and lives this.

We need a seasoned reporter/editor who can lead our US & World reporters and guide our coverage. This manager will also offer unique insights on how digital is helping to shape world events. News happens on its own schedule, and this editor needs to be ready at virtually any moment to dive in and lead the charge on coverage.

Leading the Coverage:
Mashable’s US & World channel covers politics and national and world events. The qualified candidate should have experience in covering all three. A strong network of global sources is a must.

More tactically, the US & World Editor will plan, manage and edit a wide variety of coverage—all through the prism of digital. We’re looking for speed, quality and a steady-flow of awesome content and ideas that will turn our US & World coverage into highly-shareable, must-read content.

Responsibilities:

Developing, pursuing and publishing multiple stories in a day
Working with the Features team to deliver broader US & World features and series
Helping develop new presentation formats for innovative story ideas, including the creation of political charts, and the highlighting of global hotspots and broadband growth in developing countries
Editing
Providing regular commentary on US & World topics that matter to the Mashable audience
Line editing numerous 200 to 800-word articles each day
Ability to speak on camera about a wide range of topics
Some traveling to events and conferences

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year, accredited college or university
4 or more years of experience with a daily news website
Comfort/familiarity with technology
A year or more of experience editing writers -- line-editing as well as copy-editing
Familiarity with HTML
Familiarity with other tools of the new media trade, such as WordPress, Google Analytics and SocialFlow
A selection of clips showing off your best reporting, writing and interviewing
Proven ability to write fast and on deadline
Strong Digital Industry contacts a plus
