The successful candidate will have a strong news-writing background and also will enjoy exercising his or her writing skills through occasional assignments for opinion pieces, internal magazine articles, and other articles as assigned.

The successful candidate will have a strong, demonstrated proficiency in news writing; proficiency in essay and column writing; strong verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability of effectively dealing with press; familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes; understanding of financial issues; experience with credit union issues a plus.

This position maintains close/ongoing contact with all media (including trade, Capitol Hill, and the national press) covering credit unions and/or issues and subjects related to credit union interests; conducts outreach to media suggesting media stories/coverage of credit union/CUNA issues, trends, developments; arranges interviews/media tours of CUNA senior staff, leaders, and experts. As necessary, responds to requests for information, contacts interview subjects by making judgment about which staff/resources at CUNA can be best tapped. Researches and writes talking points, press releases, letters to editors, op-eds and other materials as necessary, working with senior CUNA staff to develop key points. Plans and manages other actions to maximize media coverage of CUNA/credit union issues, goals (conference calls, special events, etc.)
