Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


Manage the training, ongoing professional development, activities, and performance of a defined group of digital content editorial staff. This includes the development, scheduling, creation, and on-time publication of digital/online products that support SAGE’s U.S. College program.
•Closely collaborate with editorial staff, authors, developmental editors, and subject matter experts (SMEs) and manage the timely development process of hybrid print/digital, purely digital, and fully web-based titles or other digital or multimedia assets from concept stage through publication/go-live date
•Collaborate with the acquisitions editors to ensure that the quality of digital content meets or exceeds the expectations for SAGE College and is competitive with the market
•Create and manage project schedules, take initiative in identifying, pre-empting and solving problems, troubleshoot as needed within designated project budgets and schedules
•Serve as department point person on loca

Staff Management

•Manage the day-to-day activities of the digital content team, including: setting annual product development and transmittal goals; regular monitoring of progress towards these goals throughout the year to ensure they are achieved; ensuring that projects developed and transmitted by the digital content group are of appropriate academic and commercial quality and meet target publication dates; managing the controllable expenses of the Editorial Group.
•Work closely with and support members of the digital content group, as coach and mentor, to assist them in pursuing leads for content preparers, developing ancillary plans and new product concept proposals, drafting and signing ICA and WFH contracts, developing digital assets, transmitting assets to Marketing Systems, Production, and/or Publishing Technologies in a timely manner. And conducting market research in an ongoing effort to meet market needs and demands.

Digital Product Management and Project Management

•Serve as primary resource for online/digital content for college market, coordinating with members of the product and book teams during all phases of product planning, development, production, and launch
•Work effectively with management, acquisitions editors, reviewers, focus groups, class test groups, advisory boards, Marketing, Sales, Production, Publishing Technologies, IT, and Marketing Systems in communicating and clarifying project priorities, monitoring project progress, managing budgets, identifying content problems, and taking the initiative in problem solving
•Create RFPs and evaluate bids from vendors as needed, coordinating these activities with key stakeholders at SAGE
•Manage relationships with authors, SMEs, vendors, and contractors, providing feedback and evaluation, while ensuring timely delivery of content
•Establish in-house quality assurance guidelines and identify the need for more formal quality assurance testing on digital or fully web-based products
•As needed, prepare and transmit digital book content to Production, providing documentation addressing issues that may have an impact on production, including file formats, status of permissions, and any outstanding elements
•Work with in-house or freelance digital interface designers as needed to ensure optimal functionality and quality of user experience for SAGE College digital products
•Streamline media and online content development processes and implement efficiency-driven, centralized processes, documentation, and templates
•Create and monitor a detailed development schedule for each project
•Provide project updates and presentations (as requested by manager)

Digital Strategy

•Collaborate with other internal stakeholders on eBook strategy, college market apps, digital asset database and other digital initiatives
•Take a lead role in drafting digital content strategy meeting proposals, budgetary analyses, and digital product research
•Maintain and evaluate up-to-date competitive benchmarking in SAGE’s core college markets, and consult and advise editorial teams on new media/online product ideas and proposals
•Conduct regular market research and online surveys related to online learning and digital product and prepare comprehensive reports for management or other key stakeholders as directed by manager
•Collaborate and align SAGE College digital strategy and priorities with SAGE Library Information Group (journals and reference) and other SAGE business units and divisions, including CQ Press, UK Books, and Corwin when appropriate

Outreach/Sales & Marketing Support

•Represent SAGE at internal and external events, such as conferences, sales meetings, focus groups
•Host and lead information sessions for key stakeholders around SAGE regarding new College digital projects, products, or technology
•Provide support and assist marketing with review of sales tools, product descriptions for marketing pieces, and walk-throughs of digital products
•Visit college campuses each semester with editors, reps, and marketing managers to gather market feedback and meet directly with customers and university IT staff
•Serve as resource person for addressing customer or rep and Customer Service questions about digital products
•Partner with for profit/career channel sales management and staff in developing and implementing a comprehensive SAGE content strategy for this market segment

Qualifications & Education

Include, but not limited to, the following:

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and related work experience
•Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
•Minimum 2-3 years of media/web development experience (preferably in the higher education/college market)
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and social media tools
