Summary of Position

The Senior Manager for Education Online will have primary responsibility for user experience and audience development for the National Gegraphic Education website and social media. The Senior Manager for Education Online will be responsible for overall look-and-feel, software features, marketing, promotion, and social media. She or he will work closely with the VP for Educational Design and Development and other members of the Education management team to formulate the strategy for content development and acquisition. She or he will make strategic decisions about budgets, time lines, and staffing needs to align programs to the goals of the education department and National Geographic.


Develop strategy and oversee design, implementation, and maintenance of user-interface and underlying technology for the National Geographic Education website.

Oversee planning, implementation, and analysis of audience research, user testing, and analytics for website and social media. Develop strategies and plans to respond to this research.

Plan and monitor audience development and community-building through marketing and social media.

Work with content developers and content curators from NGEP to formulate a strategy for development and acquisition of content, and oversee the implementation of that strategy.

Supervise technical and content staff and contractors in implementation of website and social media strategy, develop and monitor budgets, and participate in department-wide strategy development and implementation.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree

5 or more years in a management position. Experience across education, web design, marketing/promotion, and social media.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

Strategic planning, budget, and project management skills are required. Must have excellent writing and communications skills.
