Director of External Relations
The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) seeks a Director of External Relations to raise the profile and enhance the impact of the Center, its scholars and their work. The Director, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, will be given wide latitude to build an effective and innovative external relations team.The Director of External Relations will play a key role in the ability of CNAS to succeed in a dynamic environment and have measurable impact on the national security debate. The key roles and responsibilities of the Director are: •Enhancing CNAS’ media presence across all traditional, digital and social media formats;•Maintaining and improving the CNAS website and digital footprint;•Enabling the Center’s large public events, including coordinating a prominent annual conference each June; •Ensuring CNAS products have effective roll-out and media outreach strategies; and•Managing a small team of employees and interns that emphasizes collaboration, decentralization and an entrepreneurial spirit.The successful candidate will have a proven background of success in the external relations field; awareness of key national security issues; desire to be creative and innovative; contacts across a range of print, broadcast and electronic media; and experience in leading small teams toward big results.
