Job Responsibilities and Duties:
•Contribute to both the magazine and website/blog.
•Assist with the content acquisition process, creating assignment letters and trafficking editorial content to ensure materials are received in a timely manner.
• Work with editorial team and with writers to ensure content meets the publication’s style and editorial policy.
•Participate in and contribute to weekly content brainstorming sessions.
•Edit for clarity, flow and style; fact check stories; and help manage the copy editing and proofing processes to ensure deadlines are met.
•Assist Managing Editor with obtaining and editing art work and augmented reality content.
•Convert print content for the tablet edition and for optimized web content (SEO content).
•Collaborate with Managing Editor on social media strategy and execute.
•Assist Managing Editor with editorial budget, writers’ contracts and payments.
•Work with prospective and current writers to build and maintain relationships.
•Work with area PR professionals to build and maintain relationships.
•Attend events as a representative of Bayou City magazine.
•Participate in marketing and promotion planning.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Four-year college degree required; English, Journalism or Communications preferred.
•2-4 years of content creation and management. Combination of print and digital a plus.
•Prior editing and/or publishing experience.
•Ability to think creatively, turn thoughts and ideas into content and identify topics that are of interest to the reader.
•Strong copywriting and editing skills. Expert knowledge of AP Style.
•Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines.
•Team oriented, able to work in open and collaborative environment.
•High level of professionalism and integrity.
•Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
•Knowledge of Google Analytics, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Digital Publishing Suite are all a plus.
