Overview: seeks an enterprising, deadline-driven Senior Editor with a proven record of creating and packaging best-in-class consumer health and medical content.

The Senior Editor will report directly to the Executive Editor. The successful candidate will have a strong background in consumer health and medical journalism and digital media. The candidate must be passionate and knowledgeable about all aspects of health, from general wellness to specific medical conditions, and possess a strong awareness of the needs of consumers seeking information throughout the health lifespan – from the worried well to the chronically ill.

The senior editor will have a nose for the most consumer-friendly ways to present condition information, superb editing and display-copy skills, experience producing editorial packages, and established connections with writers and experts in the field. He or she will cover many topics but maintain a deep focus on several beats (such as pain management, including headache, migraine and related topics; and multiple sclerosis).

Senior editors pitch, write and report, assign and edit content, promote stories in social media, engage in condition-specific user forums, and cultivate relationships with bloggers, experts, and freelance writers. In addition to having fluency in common Web publishing platforms (CMS, WordPress, etc.) the editor must have a firm grasp on and demonstrated skills in harnessing the power of social media. He or she must also understand how to use web metrics to generate story ideas and boost user engagement.
Assign, edit, write, report, and curate smart buzzworthy articles, slideshows, blogs and related content in on health conditions and related topics
Produce special content packages on health conditions
Develop relationships with experts and institutions that will result in first-in-line coverage of trending health and medical stories
Establish and build partnerships with health portals, influential Web sites, and leading health and medical bloggers to expand the reach of Everyday Health
Demonstrate strong user engagement knowledge by writing sharp headlines and copy
Foster participation in and engage with condition-specific communities on Everyday Health and around the web
Maximize page views and drive traffic through optimized content and social media
Use Web metrics to inform daily site programming and reach traffic and engagement goals

Smart, energetic, ambitious, and creative, with a commitment to insightful, high-impact content creation
Plugged in to a robust network of health bloggers, medical professionals, writers and expert sources
Fluent in the use of social media tools
Comfortable in a fast-paced, creative work environment that requires meticulous attention to detail
Able to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and change gears as needed
Able to work collaboratively and effectively with others on the editorial team and with others in the company

The ideal candidate MUST have:
Proven experience covering health and medicine for consumers on the Web
3-5 years experience in online journalism, excellent writing and editing skills, and an eagerness to learn and take risks
Extensive knowledge of social media, and traffic and engagement metrics
