Phoenix House seeks a UI Designer to work directly with the Marketing & Communications and Information Technology teams to help us reach our digital goals. Phoenix House’s Communications & IT departments play a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission to lead men, women, and teens affected by addiction from disrupted to productive lives. This is a Manhattan-based, on-site role.

We seek a talented designer who takes pride in tasks both small and large, taking an iterative, agile approach to web design. The UI Designer will work closely with both business/marketing and developers to create effective, engaging, and technically feasible interface design solutions for our WordPress website. The UI Designer will also be responsible for developing digital creative assets: imagery, graphics, interactions, etc. on an ongoing basis and for use in A/B testing.

Duties include:

• Develop creative direction and visual designs that are easy to understand, serve user needs, and business goals
• Communicate with and work closely with business and marketing teams and developer to test and implement effective design solutions
• Develop day-to-day digital creative assets
• Create wireframes
• Contribute to balancing user and business needs against technical requirements
• Optimize the site and take a holistic approach to interaction design to maintain a consistent tone and message, while maintaining a strong adherence to usability best practices

This is a temporary full-time position with the potential of becoming a regular staff position.


• BA/BS or MA/MS in Graphic Design or on-the-job equivalent experience


• WordPress
• Scaling visual solutions
• A/B testing


• Knowledge of usability best practices and design sensibility
• Solid digital visual design skills
• Strong Photoshop, InDesign, Visio, and Illustrator skills
• Wireframing skills
• Great interactive thinker
• Understanding of well-crafted user interfaces and workflow
• Deep knowledge of the digital space and ability to champion best-practice UI/UX design principles
• Ability to work quickly and deep-dive into details when needed
• Good understanding of the capabilities and limitations of front-end web development tools including HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Ability to code is not necessary.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a small, close-knit team
• Excellent time management skills
• A solid portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design patterns for products and brands/organizations
